In the next few weeks we’re going to be hitting the water in Catamarans in a big way, and we want to take you along for the ride by sharing videos, photos and more from our sailing. To provide a better window to the action, we’ve created a new site at www.teamqftc.com that we think will help you feel like you’re on the water with us! The site is still under development, so bear with us while we work out the kinks, but check it out for all of the lastest updates.
Quest For The Cup team
Earlier this week Erika Reineke joined the QFTC squad, bumping our World title count to 5, our National title count to 14, and our ISAF Youth World medal count to 5!! With phenomenal results in the Laser Radial as well as the Melges 32, the Etchells, and many other classes, Erika will make an awesome addition to the team. Later on this month, Erika will head to London where she is coaching at the 2012 London Olympics!!! Stay tuned for more updates on her Olympic experience later this month!
We’re very excited to announce the latest addition to our team, Marly Isler! Marly might be the first girl on the team, but with international sailing experience in I420s and 29ers, she’s ready to go head to head with the boys. Marly is one of the few sailors in the US who has actually sailed on an AC45! With JJ Fetter and Peter Isler as parents, the America’s Cup runs in her blood!
Check out her bio here.
In the past few weeks we have reached out to several of our past sailing mentors, and coaches to help us put together the strongest team that the US has to offer, and we have received lots of support! Check out who we’ve been working with, and what they have to say on our new “Endorsements” page!
Currently four of our mentors are sailing in the Women’s Match Race World Championship in Sweden, with three of them on Team Maclaren having swept the competition so far! Follow Team Maclaren here as they prepare for the Olympics in London and follow mentor, Elizabeth Kratzig’s team here.
Team Maclaren fully supports the Quest For The Cup: Campaign For The Youth America’s Cup. The team has an incredible amount of talent, across a wide spectrum of areas, and all of which will be necessary to achieve their goal – to be the USA team to beat and bring home the trophy. The team, sailors, coaches etc, have a tough road ahead; they have already demonstrated they are capable of hard work. Their work ethic and determination will hold them in good stead as they work together to form the cohesive unit that will make them champions.
Team Maclaren: Anna Tunnicliffe-Funk (Olympic Gold Medalist, 2008), Molly
Vandemoer, and Debbie Capozzi
The July/August issue of Sailing World just hit news stands and Team QFTC is featured on page 17. The article is titled “Training Wings” and is written by Stuart Streuli. Results for the event can be found here: http://2012nationals.collegesailing.org/coed-results/. At the end of the event the 2012 ICSA College Sailing All Americans were named. This is one of the highest honors within college sailing.
