Oliver was born in Santa Barbara, CA where he grew up sailing US Sabots, Laser Radials, Lasers, Club 420s, CFJs and 29ers.
His first major success came in 2007 when Oliver partnered up with Willie McBride win the men’s division at the 29er US Youth Nationals and qualified to represent the United States at the ISAF Youth Worlds later that summer. Showing his ability to excel in a variety of boats, Oliver finished just a few points out of qualification for the Youth Worlds the next two years in 29ers and Laser Radials respectively. Oliver and Willie also went on to claim top 3 finishes in the Club 420 at the International Orange Bowl and C420 Midwinters. The latter regatta qualified the pair for the 2008 I420 Junior Europeans in Zadar, Croatia. In 2009, Oliver teamed up with Hans Henken to compete in both the I420 and 29er Worlds at Lake Garda, finishing 20TH and 16th respectively in well over 150 boat fleets.
Oliver and Hans transitioned quickly into the 49er and became part of the US Sailing’s 49er Olympic Development team. In 2010 they traveled with past and current Olympians as part of this team, racing 49ers at Kiel Week in Kiel, Germany and 49er Europeans in Gdynia, Poland. In 2011 Oliver and Hans took the bronze medal at the 49er US Nationals.
Oliver is currently a sophomore at Stanford University. He competes on their varsity sailing team and is majoring in Electrical Engineering.
